About Us - Who is the Country Centre for?

Growing plants at the Country Centre Day Care Centre  Potting plants at the Country Centre for adults with Learning difficulties  Gathering Potatoes at the Day Centre in Duston, Northants

The Country Centre is located in Duston, Northampton and has been open since 1985. It is run by David, Richard and Karen and is supported by the Friends of the Country Centre.

We are a day centre offering supported work to people with learning disabilities. Clients, staff, visiting carers and volunteers work together at the Centre. Our main work is growing plants and vegetables, which we advertise and sell to local people. This is the work we do in the spring, summer and autumn. In the winter, we clean and paint our machinery. We do some contract work, too, for example supplying produce, and renovating farm machinery.

But as well as this, we have to keep our day centre tidy and in good repair, doing cleaning and decorating, as well as informal meal preparation.

And we have tutors in on one day a week helping clients with reading, writing, and dealing with bills and money generally.

Some of our clients go out from our day centre and do part-time work in local businesses.

So all in all, clients are supported in developing the practical skills necessary for running their own lives and making their own decisions, independently of our day centre.
